Utilisation Technology

The Utilisation Technology group within A&B Mylec features power plant experts with extensive experience developed through their careers in coal fired power plants. Power plant experts have been utilised to:

  • Witness coal trials in Australia and many other countries (e.g. China, Japan, Chile, Indonesia etc.).
  • Develop an understanding of mechanisms driving ash deposition and developing solutions.
  • Perform independent due diligence assessments.
  • Develop fifth mill flashing capability which can significantly reduce oil consumption.
  • Tune boiler combustion and review plant performance.
  • Investigate and solve miscellaneous power plant problems associated with coal utilisation.
  • Commission new plants and plant upgrades.

Many coal mineralogy and ash deposition studies have been performed in Australian and International power stations. Typical stages of the investigations includes:

  • Assess and evaluate coal mineralogy of power plant feed
  • Assess and evaluate chemistry and mineralogy of deposits
  • Assess and evaluate plant operating performance and plant characteristics
  • Develop model to describe fundamental mechanisms for ash deposition
  • Research and evaluate possible solutions
  • Implement solutions through changes of plant operation, use of additives, training of plant operators, implementation of new blend strategies etc.
